My Barcelona Bae-cation

Barcelona, Barca, BCN – Oh how I love this beautiful vibrant city. This was actually my second time travelling there, the  first time with my bestie and this time with my Love.

It all came about when we realised all the couples around us were going on “Bae-cations” and we were in desperate need of some sunshine before the UK winter weather really set in.

We booked the trip quite last minute actually, so I was pleasantly surprised at how cheap we managed to get the flights. As it was a short haul trip my go to airline was Ryan Air albeit they are not the best airline and their new baggage rules are mind boggling. The flight’s for both of us including return tickets were approx £90, such a bargain right?

Where did we stay?

The first time I went to Barcelona, I stayed in the heart and soul of the city “La Rambla”. This time I thought it would be nice to stay in a different location, away from the hustle and bustle. After trawling through I found the perfect hotel, which was situated only a short distance from the main strip.

The hotel of choice was called Salles Hotels Pere IV I had already fell in love with it just from the pictures, but when we actually arrived there I fell in love with it even more. The hotel lobby was just beautiful; from the marble floors to the large glitzy ceiling light, oh and the room was just divine. A breakfast buffet was included in the over all price which made things a lot easier and a lot of the time we would bring a few nibbles back to our room for those late night hunger pangs.

What did we do?

Barcelona is most famous for its beautifully architected buildings many of which were designed by Antoni Gaudi. There is literally so much to do in Barcelona and boy did we do a lot!!! So I have narrowed it down to my top 5 starting with….

Bus Tour of the city

I have put this as number one because I believe, this is a must do when visiting Barcelona. I mean what better way to explore the city? There are 3 routes on the bus tour a red, green and blue, we chose the red route although you are still able to use your pass on the other routes which I thought was pretty good. We paid 30 euros each which may sound like extortion but for all the sites and monuments you get to see I think it is well worth it. You can also get off at each destination and explore further, then just hop back on the bus once you are finished. My favourite sight would have to be the famous unfinished Gaudi building it is truly magnificant.

Anyone that knows me, knows that I am obsessed with makeup. So of course I had to pay a visit to the Famous makeup department store Sephora, I am obsessed with this place and I hope one day us makeup lovers in the UK get to experience having one. They have added a lot more brands since I last traveled to Barcelona such as; Becca Cosmetics and Anastasia Beverly hills.

People often think that city breaks are super expensive, but there is so much of the city you can see for free. The only thing it will cost you is “ Tired Legs” from the sheer amount of walking you will be doing ( I just see it as a way of burning off all those extra calories 😛 ).

Happy Pills

A sweet lovers paradise, Happy Pills is actually the cutest sweet shop I have ever seen. I can’t believe we don’t have something like this in the UK. I love love love this concept of sweets being pills I think its amazing, if you travel to Barcelona you should definitely check this place out.

Seriously how cute!!!

Barcelona Cathedral

La Roca Village

If you love designer items for a fraction of the price, you will fall in love with La roca village. It is the spanish version of Bicester village, It is about 50 mins on the coach and the tickets were 30 euro for a return which is such a bargain because in a taxi it would cost double. Sadly I didn’t find anything that tickled my fancy, but we still enjoyed ourselves as it is just such a pretty place to walk around.

What did we eat

The great thing about Barcelona is every corner you turn you will find a place to eat, but my favourite meal of the entire trip would have to be the Hardrock cafe. They do the most amazing burgers and their cocktails are to die for. The Hardrock Cafe isn’t just a restaurant, it is more like an experience. Three things really stood out for me and that was the atmosphere, how friendly the staff were and how can I forget the interior design. This was my first time ever going to a hard rock cafe( Shameful I know!!), now I understand all the hype surrounding it. .

We had the best time in Barcelona and it was the perfect destination for our first holiday together. We are currently in the process of planning our next trip, I wonder where it will be. I have so much destinations on my bucket list!

What would be your dream bae-cation with your other half?

Lots of Love

  1. love this! Never been to Barca and always wanted to go, deffo on my list now after seeing this blog 😍 love the pictures also

  2. Looks like you had a great time. I have a bad taste in my mouth when it comes to Barcelona because when I visited with friends, one of their bags got stolen off a bus!! I have heard great things about it though! And sephora is always a great place to go!

  3. Ria darling, your post opened me up to some places I knew nothing about. Happy pills and La Roca village will definitely be back on my Barcelona to list.

I totally agree with you about the bus tours, it is so much easier getting on them to do site seeing. Saves you enough time doing the trekking around yourself.

It is safe to say you and Bae had a great time.

  4. This looks like a wonderful trip. Barcelona is somewhere I would love to visit, it looks like there is so much to see and do. Your photos are brilliant! I love the idea of a sweet shop called Happy Pills, I would most definitely give it a visit too. Thanks for sharing, great post Ria! ❤ xx
